It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish!
Top Ten Characters I Would Crush On If I Were Also A Fictional Character…
Oh, please it’s top ten BOOK BOYFRIEEENDS!!!!
In no particular order… (because really, how could I possibly choose?)
His eyes lock on mine. “Anna, I promise that I will never leave you.”
My heart pounds in response.
And Étienne knows it, because he takes my hand and holds it against his chest, to show me how hard his heart is pounding, too.”
“Mallory, you want a freeze? I’m a glacier. You want slow? I’m a turtle. But I’ll also be waiting by the phone every night, no matter how long it takes until you’re ready. Scout’s honor.”
Unexpectedly, he released my hands and leaned forward. Slowly, he reached out and held a lock of my hair, twisting it around one finger thoughtfully. I froze, and for a moment, there was nothing going on in the world except him touching my hair. He let my hair go, looking a little surprised—and embarrassed—at what he’d done.
“Don’t cut it,” he said gruffly.
Somehow, I remembered how to talk again. “But no one’ll see my tattoos if I don’t.”
He moved toward the doorway, a small smile playing over his lips. “Wear it up.”
I felt you come alive when we kissed, and I know you’re afraid of that. Afraid to
unleash that other side of yourself.
Roar’s smile widened. “I know. You missed me.”
She rolled her eyes. “It’s barely been three weeks since I last saw you.”
“Miserable stretch of time.” He said.”
“As you wish…”
“Are you sure that being like everybody else will make you happy?”
“I don’t know any other way.”
“Let me show you.”
And then we’re kissing. Or at least, I think we’re kissing—I’ve only seen it done a couple of times, quick closed-mouth pecks at weddings or on formal occasions. But this isn’t like anything I’ve ever seen, or imagined, or even dreamed: this is like music or dancing but better than both.”
He pulls his hand away. “You’ve hurt my feelings,” he says with a mock sniff. “All that racist talk—”
“Racist? I’m pretty sure you’re not using that word right.”
“Wealthist, then.” He curls up in a fetal position against the sofa arm. “Whatever. I’m all bitter and unhappy and worked up now, thanks to you.”
(Okay, I forgot to take notes on quotes for this book so that was the best one I could find!)
“I was just waiting for you to want me as much as I wanted you.” His words were quiet but carried one hell of an impact. “I knew we were going to be together; it was just a matter of time. I kept hoping that you would figure it out. But for a smart girl, you’re a little dense, Vi. I kept bringing up Lissie Adams, and showing you the notes she was leaving me, hoping that you’d get pissed enough to finally admit how you felt about me.”
Siiiigh. Okay, so that’s actually nine. My top NINE book boyfriends!!! Can’t wait to see who everyone else is swooning over this week!!
