January 2015: Recap & Wrap-Up!

If I thought last year went fast then I have no idea what happened to January. No really. Where did January go!? 2014 went by too quickly and one month of 2015 is already gone. BUT the good news is, I already feel good about what I read in January and what I’ve accomplished! I lowered my Goodreads challenge to 100 books for the year. The past two years I’ve read over 120 (130 books two years ago) but I was so stressed out about always keeping up with my challenge that it took some of the fun out of it. I’m already just RIGHT on track with 100 books but it feels good to be on track and then slipping ahead every now and then!

  • Number of Books Read In January: 8. Hooray! That’s a pretty good start to the year!
  • Popular Search Terms:  “the kill order” & “books like if I stay” // “book addict’s guide” // “where she went ending” (they are pretty much the same nowadays!)
  • More Amusing Search Terms: “bestfriends turn lovers short erotica stories” (not that kind of blog!)  // “is emilie de ravin on the cover of where she went” (she is NOT… but it looks like her!) // “teenage romantic love story:i had sex with my bestfriends brother” (well okay then)
  • Most Referrals (non-social media): Rather Be Reading, What Sarah Read, So Obsessed With
  • Where My Blog Most Often Leads You (non-internal/social media)Tripping Over Books, Books Take You Places, Feed Your Fiction Addiction

Top Ten Tuesday – January 13, 2015: Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To

January 20, 2015

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic is: Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To

I wish I could read ALL OF THE BOOKS. I really do. But there were some 2014 releases and debuts I was especially sad not to read right away but… Can’t make it to everything! Here are books I didn’t read in 2014 that I hope to in 2015:

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
Trust Me I’m Lying by Mary Elizabeth Summer
As You Wish by Cary Elwes
I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
Behind the Scenes by Dahlia Adler
Rebel by Amy Tintera
The Glass Casket by McCormick Templeman
Panic by Lauren Oliver
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama

So what do you think? These are some pretty big 2014 titles! Which books should I hit up first in 2015!?

December 2014/Year End Recap & Wrap-Up!

Well, 2014 just flew by. With wedding planning, the wedding, the honeymoon, and everything else that happened this year, I barely even noticed 2014 was here. It was a very good year for my personally and reading was a bit slower, but I also think that’s a good thing. It helped me slow down a bit. I do love being able to read as much as I can but I think I’m going to take 2015 a little bit slower and not to pressure myself so much to keep up with previous years. This is my hobby, not my job, right? 🙂

  • Number of Books Read In December: 12! Yay!
  • Popular Search Terms:  “where she went ending” (always looking for that ending… read the book! I promise!) // “books like if i stay” (woot!) // “fifth book of throne of glass” (yes, please! I mean, I’ll take #4, but…)
  • More Amusing Search Terms: “evil book sex” (hahah wtf?) // “thoughts of people about books should be stay” (… what?) // “overall opinion about a book” (yesssss I have lots of those!)
  • Most Referrals (Non-Twitter/FB/Wordpress, etc): GReads!, What Sarah Read, Gone With the Words
  • Where My Blog Most Often Leads You (Non-Goodreads/Internal Links, etc): It’s All About Books, The Book Vixen, Love At First Page

An Updated Look at my Goodreads Reading Progress

Goodreads December 2014This is also kind of rude because I lowered my goal to 120 books so it still thinks I didn’t achieve my goal. AH!

  • The Book Blogger Organization Challenge is officially starting! It’s never too late to join and there is no way to fail this challenge. Whether you’re in for a little or a lot, come get organized with us in 2015!
  • Hoping to catch up on some reviews and review copies! (Sheesh, how often do I say that?) But this time I mean it! I think now that the holidays are winding down, I’m finally going to have time to do things again!
  • I’m on the blog tours for THERE WILL BE LIES, FAIREST (The Lunar Chronicles #3.5), and FIGHT FOR POWER (The Rule of Three #2) — whew, busy blog tour month!
  • I wanted January to be my unofficial NaNo month since I wasn’t able to do it in November but I think it’s still going to be a bit too busy. I need to catch up a little bit first but I’m hoping to write here and there a little bit more!

  • Number of Books Read: 120. I lowered my goal twice but I am TOTALLY okay with that.
  • Popular Search Terms:  “the kill order pdf” (le sigh) // “where she went ending” (also le sigh) // “which lunar chronicles character are you” & “lunar chronicles quiz” (hooray!) // “book addicts guide” (also hooray!)

These were not only some of the posts with the most views but also some of my FAVORITES from this year!

Other Favorite Posts

  • My review for Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo was my most popular this year! That actually may have been because I was giving away a copy of my ARC…… But it was one of my favorite reviews to write so I’m glad it was the one with the most views!
  • I’m actually a little bit surprised that Sever by Lauren DeStefano was one of my top reviews! I think it actually comes up through a lot of search engines but I’m glad because I also really liked writing this one!
  • My reviews for the Monument 14 series come up a lot through search engines too and that makes me REALLY happy! I really enjoy these books!
  • My review for Libba Bray’s Beauty Queens also gets a lot of hits!

Other Favorite Reviews

  • I connected so much with Cricket in Nantucket Red by Leila Howland
  • I joined Matt Finch’s fan club with my read of Open Road Summer by Emery Lord — and it was my favorite debut of 2014!
  • Althea & Oliver by Cristina Moracho felt like one of my more “under the radar” reads and I really enjoyed sharing my review and spreading the word to others!
  • I had SO MANY FEELS for Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater!
  • I was actually kind of proud of my review of Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch.

  • I actually don’t have a lot of plans for next year. I just really, really want to start catching up on some review reads but also really just read what I want. I had a lot of DNFs in 2014 BUT that was a good thing because I wasn’t wasting time on books that I wasn’t enjoying.
  • I couldn’t do NaNo in November because of my wedding and I’m dying to write more. I may use a month this year for my own personal NaNo event!
  • My blog will turn three!
  • Who knows what else? I’m not making too many plans so I’m excited to see where the year will take me!

That wraps up the year! Thank you to everyone who supported The Book Addict’s Guide this year!!!! I love blogging for myself but it’s so much more fun with everyone else reading and commenting and flailing with me. You guys make this hobby so much more fun for me and I love you all!

2014 End of Year Book Survey!

One of my favorite bloggers, Jamie at The Perpetual Page Turner, hosts a wonderful thing called the End of Year Book Survey. I had an absolute blast completing the survey for 2012 and 2013 so I was excited to hop on board for the 2014 END OF YEAR BOOK SURVEY!

As usual, all links will take you to my reviews for these books so if you see something you’re curious about, check out my reviews!

Number Of Books You Read: 116… goal is 120!
Number of Re-Reads: Nine. Definitely way more than last year!
Genre You Read The Most From: Fantasy! (At least it looks like that according to my Goodreads stats) Doesn’t that surprise you? Or at least it surprises you from 2012 and 2013 Brittany!

1. Best Book You Read In 2014? YES, I will have to cheat.
Actually Read in 2013: Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) – Marissa Meyer
Contemporary YA: Open Road Summer — Emery Lord // Nantucket Red (Nantucket #2) – Leila Howland
Contemporary New Adult: When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill // Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler
Dystopian: Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) – Veronica Rossi
Fantasy YA: Heir of Fire — Sarah J. Maas
Fantasy Adult: Mistborn, The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson // The Lies of Locke Lamora & Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch
Historical Fiction: Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin #3) – Robin LaFevers (though this is really also fantasy/mythology)
Magical Realism:
Blue Lily, Lily Blue — Maggie Stiefvater (maybe this is fantasy?)
Mystery/Thriller: Dangerous Girls – Abigail Haas
Sci-Fi: Dissonance — Erica O’Rourke

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t? I think #scandal by Sarah Ockler was my biggest disappointment this year after LOVING The Book of Broken Hearts last year.

 3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read in 2014? Probably Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) – Sarah J. Maas because I did not like it when I first tried it in 2012 (I think I wasn’t ready for fantasy) and ended up loving it (and binge read the rest of the series). Also my new favorites which are NEW ADULT BOOKS ooooh! When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill and Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler

 4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did) In 2014? I book push The Lunar Chronicles on people constantly but I think most people have read that… I did join the #SandersonArmy and book pushed The Mistborn Trilogy on a lot of people this year AND THEY READ IT. That was pretty exciting!

 5. Best series you started in 2014? Best Sequel of 2014? Best Series Ender of 2014?
Best series I started
were probably two that I binge read (or at least caught up to the current place in the series): Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson.
Best Sequel: Ugh. So hard. Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) – Marissa Meyer, Blue Lily, Lily Blue — Maggie Stiefvater, Heir of Fire — Sarah J. Maas. I think that covers most.

 6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2014? Brandon Sanderson! Sarah J. Maas is a close second right now.

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone? I’ll say the two new adult books! When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill and Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler

 8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year? The Hero of Ages (Mistborn #3), Dangerous Girls – Abigail Haas, Blue Lily, Lily Blue — Maggie Stiefvater though I did read quite a few books in one day this year…

 9. Book You Read In 2014 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year? The entire Lunar Chronicles series before WINTER comes out (I’ll probably host a read along so be on the lookout!), Dangerous Girls – Abigail Haas, probably read the entire Raven Cycle series before book 4 too.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2014? I knew this question was coming and somehow I don’t ever keep track of covers. I really need a Goodreads shelf for cover love.  These are ones that I loved but also not all of the covers I’ve loved the most because I just don’t remember them!

11. Most memorable character of 2014? Oooh that’s a hard one. SO many to choose from but I’m going to say Locke Lamora. The characters in that book/series are just SO much fun and so dynamic.

 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2014? Blue Lily, Lily Blue, for sure.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/Life-Changing Book of 2014? Probably The Hero of Ages (Mistborn #3), Blue Lily, or my re-read of Walk Two Moons… All for very different reasons.

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2014 to finally read? Hmmm probably White Cat (Curse Workers #1) – Holly Black. I read a few older titles but I didn’t really KNOW about them until this year so I wouldn’t really could those! I did know about White Cat for a while now though.

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2014? Um. That’s way too hard so I will go with a fan-favorite and an easy one for me to actually memorize: “Your cats! Give us all your gods-damned cats!” [Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch]

16. Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2014? Shortest (non-novella): Something Like Normal – Trish Doller and Kiss of Broken Glass – Madeleine Kuderick (both 224 pgs) // Longest: My re-read of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter #5) – J.K. Rowling (870 pgs)

17. Book That Shocked You The Most: Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas — WHEW BOYYYY

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!):
Omg that’s kind of hard! Well, I re-read Anna and the French Kiss this year and that is one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE, FOREVER AND EVER OTPs. Also Reagan and Matt Finch from Open Road Summer.

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year:
Reagan & Dee (Open Road Summer)
Bromance: Locke and Jean (The Lies of Locke Lamora)
Mentor: Vin & Kelsier (Mistborn)

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2014 From An Author You’ve Read Previously: Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) – Marissa Meyer, Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) – Marissa Meyer

21. Best Book You Read In 2014 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure: Mistborn, The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson (Nikki/There Were Books Involved), Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas (TONS of blogger reviews but mainly Estelle‘s & Jamie‘s stick out to me!)

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2014? Connor from Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler, Matt from When Joss Met Matt (these new adult guys just GOT TO ME). Also Matt Finch (Open Road Summer), Braden (On the Fence)

23. Best 2014 debut you read? Open Road Summer by Emery Lord

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year? Mistborn, The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read? When Joss Met Matt, On the Fence, re-reading Anna and the French Kiss

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2014? The Well of Ascension AND The Hero of Ages (oh god), legit had “omg wtf is happening I’m scared” tears in Blue Lily, Lily Blue, and The Assassin’s Blade novellas

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year? Althea & Oliver – Cristina Moracho

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul? It’s not even out yet but I read it in 2014 so I’m going to say The Winner’s Crime.

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2014? Probably Blue Lily, Lily Blue. I mean, I can’t even classify a genre! It’s so interesting and incorporates so many amazing things.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)? Probably Evidence of Things Not Seen. It was kind of offensive in the beginning (like weird things that didn’t seem to have anything to do with what the synopsis said the book was about) and I made it fairly far into the book and nothing was happening at all. Very frustrating.

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2014? Lots! I’m pretty sure I knew Nikki (There Were Books Involved) and Angie (Disquietus Reads) before 2014 but I didn’t really get to KNOW them well until this year. I also met the WONDERFUL Andi (Andi’s ABCs)!

2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2014? Wait, for real? That’s like picking a favorite child! I will just tell you my post popular review of the year and it was CRESS! (Well this was one of my favorite reviews so that works.)

3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog? As far as traffic goes, it was my Book Addict’s GUIDE to Crossover Books! (YA books for adult readers and vice versa)

4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)? Definitely the 2014 Fall Fierce Reads tour where I got to interview the authors AND moderate the event! It was a dream come true.

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2014? Fierce Reads tour again!

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)? It wasn’t posted this year but it still has the most hits in 2014! The Best-Friend-Turned-Boyfriend Romance. I think I need to do a Part II this year!!!

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love? Hmmm, probably just the Book and a Beverage posts in general. I know people LOVE participating and being featured but they don’t get a TON of hits and/or comments. I think it’s because it’s a weekly feature and not one that everyone participates in (like TTT or WoW). I think people tend to skip over blogger spotlights in their feeds because they have so many other posts to read? I just feel bad for the bloggers I feature! I want them to have more hellos 🙂

9. Best bookish discovery (book related sites, book stores, etc.)? Hmmm not NECESSARILY bookish but I’ve started obsessing over My UPS and My USPS to track things that come to the house (let’s be honest. They’re mostly books) and using Wunderlist for the lists I need to keep!

10.  Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year? I actually didn’t take on too many challenges because I knew my wedding was going to take up a lot of time. I will be completing the Goodreads challenge BUT I also lowered my goal like three times because I just couldn’t keep up with the amount of books I was reading last year.

1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2014 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2015? I have a few that I’m already planning to read in 2015 but I promised I would read My Life Next Door and I STILL DIDN’T.  Seriously. Someone make me read that.

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2015 (non-debut)? WINTER. OMG WINTER.

3. 2015 Debut You Are Most Anticipating? I usually don’t get AS excited for debuts just because I don’t know anything about the authors or writing yet but I’m really looking forward to Last Year’s Mistake by Gina Ciocca! BEST FRIENDS FALLING FOR EACH OTHER. REUNITING AFTER TIME APART. GAH. Those are my two faaaaavorite tropes. I have high hopes for it!

 4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2015? Well Winter. I did just say that… I’ll say it again. (I’m so excited. I’m so scared.)

5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2015? I really have no idea. I don’t have TOO many “big” plans… Whenever things happen they sort of just come out of nowhere.  It’s not really a reading/blogging thing, but I’ve actually been considering becoming a virtual assistant (for an author possibly? Something book-related because I need some sort of connection to this hobby that I love) but I have no idea where to start or how to approach that so seriously, if you know anything or have any ideas, let me know!

6. A 2015 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone: I’ve read four so far already (haha!) and the winner for top 2015 rec so far is WHEN JOSS MET MATT by Ellie Cahill (aka Liz Czukas). Even if you’re not a new adult person, it’s still very much in the realm of YA readers, I think. I absolutely LOVED it.

Another big thanks to Jamie for organizing this survey! I always have so much fun with it every year and I am SO excited for what 2015 has in store for me!

Best of 2014 Book Giveaway!

best of 2014 book giveaway graphic

I can’t believe it’s December already! The year has truly flown by. But this also means I get to do one of my favorite things which is recapping and sharing with you my favorite reads of this year! Ginger at GReads! hosts her own Best of 2014 Book Giveaway and invited other bloggers to hop in on this event so when Ginger asked me if I wanted to be a part of it, I immediately said yes!

The past few years, I have been terrible at keeping track of what my favorite books were. I mean, Goodreads basically does the work for me and I had a favorites shelf and I could go back and see what I read, but as the years go by, I get more and more organized. This year I actually made a “Best of 2014” shelf so choosing which books I want to share with you today will be a snap!

Anna and the French Kiss – Stephanie Perkins
The Scorpio Races – Maggie Stiefvater
Walk Two Moons – Sharon Creech

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: This book gave me some SUPER FEELS all over again! If you’ve already read this & loved it, I HIGHLY recommend a re-read and if you haven’t, you probably need to win this giveaway so you can ask for it! 😀

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: This book is SO beautiful and the audio is simply fantastic too, if you’ve an audiobook person! I loved my first read of this but I think the second was even better. Brought so many feels back and I had forgotten exactly how it ended so that was a nice little surprise too!

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech: I’m not really expecting someone to pick this if they win the giveaway but it has to be noted that this middle grade re-read was one of my best books of 2014. I read it as a kid and it’s STILL powerful to me today. I don’t know if reading it for the first time as an adult would hold the same weight for others since I did have all those childhood feelings creeping back but I still think it’s wonderful!

Dissonance (Dissonance #1) – Erica O’Rourke
Dangerous Girls – Abigail Haas
Open Road Summer – Emery Lord
The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard #1) – Scott Lynch

Dissonance (Dissonance #1) by Erica O’Rourke: This was SUCH a “me” book. Parallel universes, romance, music theory, set in Chicago… Totally Brittany. I absolutely loved it too! The science behind everything was fascinating and the romance was so sweet.

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas: This mystery/thriller is totally realistic and totally swept me away. I read it in a single day and just devoured it. I was totally hooked and don’t fear the hype — it’s totally amazing!

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord: Soooo many feels for this book (Matt Finch!) and I even liked the country music aspect of this! Who would have though, right? The friendships, the romance. Gah. This book has it all!

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard #1) by Scott Lynch: If you’re looking to get into fantasy or adult fantasy, try this book! It’s a bit lengthy compared to most YA novels but it’s soooo much fun (and I hope you don’t mind cursing). It was a laugh a minute with brilliant characters and the best bromance I’ve ever read to boot.

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) – Veronica Rossi
Ruin and Rising (Grisha Trilogy #3) – Leigh Bardugo
Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) – Marissa Meyer
Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) – Maggie Stiefvater
Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin #3) – Robin LaFevers

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) by Veronica Rossi: I think the second book may have been my favorite of this trilogy but ItSB was so wonderful and exactly how a series/trilogy should end. I thought Veronica Rossi totally knocked it out of the park and it made me SO happy to have such a wonderful ending to the trilogy because I want to keep on recommending it!

Ruin and Rising (The Grisha Trilogy #3) by Leigh Bardugo: I just love this series to pieces. If you’re looking for a great fantasy series and you haven’t read this yet, START IT. Leigh Bardugo penned a fantastic trilogy here and it’s one I will recommend and re-read many times, I’m sure!

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer: I actually read this back in 2013 but it was released in 2014 so it counts! If you know me but at all, you know that this is one of my favorite series. I still remember ALL THE FEELINGS when I read this and it was honestly so cinematic! Just a masterpiece.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvater: Oh. My. Gansey. This book just killed me. How am I supposed to wait for book four again!?!? I love this series and this was by far the best one so far. OH, THE FEELS.

Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin #3) by Robin LaFevers: I just LOVED these companion novels but omg, MORTAL HEART. It was so amazing! I’ve always been dying to find out Annith’s story and I really love how this whole series comes together!

throneofglass    mistborn

(prize would be your choice of book from the series)

The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass # 0.1 – 0.5) – Sarah J. Maas
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) – Sarah J. Maas
Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) – Sarah J. Maas
Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) – Sarah J. Maas
Mistborn: The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) – Brandon Sanderson
The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) – Brandon Sanderson

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: I binge read this series in the summer/fall and gahhhh. I fell in love. HEIR OF FIRE, OMG. These books really got me even deeper into fantasy and I am already dying for book four. Eeeek.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson: I also binge read this series and WOW. Another adult fantasy collection that I just fell head over heels for. I almost wish I hadn’t binge read it…? Because now I want so much more of it haha. I will have to stick to the spin-offs and other Sanderson books afterwards!

I GOT MARRIED. I think that pretty much sums up November. It was a relatively quieter month in the reading and blogging world for my since my wedding was in early November and then I went on my honeymoon immediately after for a week!

  • WHEW, guys. WHEW. Wedding and honeymoon were great but I am SO SO HAPPY to get back to my normal schedule! I have missed reading and blogging so much. I somehow ended up blogging a BUNCH this past week already so I’m ready to get back into the swing of things! YAY!

  • I’ll also be doing Jamie‘s End of the Year Survey again! Had SO much fun with it the past two years and I can’t wait to share my answers again!

October 2014: Recap & Wrap-Up!

October may have been the quickest month this year. It wasn’t a great month for reading, mostly because I’m getting married in AN ACTUAL WEEK. I honestly cannot believe that’s almost here! I’ve been trying to read when I can, but really most of my time has been dedicated to wedding stuff and whereas before I was a bit stressed out about trying to keep up with reading, I am totally okay with the time that I need to dedicate to wedding things to get stuff done and keep my sanity! 🙂

  • Number of Books Read In August: 5. Haha omg, I literally only read five books this month. That’s insane. But like I said… wedding takes up most of my time lately! I’m really hoping to start catching up on SO many things after the honeymoon!
  • Popular Search Terms:  “books like if I stay” & “books similar to if i stay” // “book addicts guide” // “lunar chronicles personality quizzes”
  • More Amusing Search Terms: “why is the 5th wave so confusing” // “childermass tim riggins jacket” (EXCELLENT) // “books with sex scenes like sweet evil” (uhh. Yikes?) // “finish the book i started the book addict’s guide” (I’m confused?) // “how much money made by john green with an abundance of Katherines”

I really, really want to do a full blog post about this (and other social media… hacks? Is hacks a good word? Different ways to use social media to help promote as well as organize, so I think so!) but unfortunately, I thought of this idea when I’m super pressed for time! For now, I wanted to include the idea of the group Pinterest boards in my wrap-up for this month!

I’ve been totally surprised at much Pinterest has helped my blog reach a different audience. There are so many more bookworms who are on Pinterest that may not be Twitter people (and I still think it’s terribly difficult to reach people on Facebook) and this was proven to me a few months ago when one of my pins started to go crazy. It was the graphic of my Book Addict’s GUIDE to crossover books — it ended up getting TONS of repins and therefore brought TONS of new people to my blog. They didn’t all become followers, of course, but it brought a wide variety of people to my blog and those pins just really brought in so much traffic! The only issue with promoting on Pinterest is that once I pin my own link, it’s REALLY hard to re-post it. Sure, I can keep re-pinning my own link but that feels a bit obnoxious and I can’t really ASK people to re-pin my stuff either. I was searching how to market yourself better with Pinterest and I found the idea about group boards.

Group Pinterest boards allow anyone to pin anything to that board — all they have to do is be invited. So I decided to try my hand at creating a set of group boards for the book community — readers, bloggers, authors, publishers — really ANYONE who loves reading and wants a central place to go hunt for new posts or graphics or book covers or recommendations. The great thing about group boards is that anyone can request to join (and I’m currently the admin of the group boards that I set up so it’s not like I’m really denying any requests!) and then they can pin whatever they want, so long as it’s related to that specific board. THEN you’re essentially cross-posting your link in a different spot so you can re-pin both old and new links. Everyone who follows the group boards will see ALL of the pins that ANYONE pins. So instead of following a ton of people, you’re following the group Pinterest account and you just get all bookish things, all the time. It just seemed really helpful to have a place to cross-post bookish pins and the more people that join and pin, the wider the audience gets and the more people everyone reaches.

bookish pinterest

If you’re interesting in joining the group boards, all you have to do is comment on the “Request Board”, give the email address that your Pinterest account is linked to (not just any old email), and let me know which boards you want to pin to! Then you can pin anything, anytime (so long as it’s appropriate for that board). I’ll keep pinning links from around the book-world too to always keep the content fresh!

Anyway… this really turned into a blog post of its own, but it’s something I’m really excited for and I hope others are excited for it too! I think it could be a great way to not only help promote your blog but another place to connect with other bloggers, new readers, and a fun place to keep on sharing! If you’re interested, head on over to the Book Community Group Boards here!

  • I AM GETTING MARRIED. NOVEMBER 8TH. IT’S SO SOON. So needless to say, you’ll be seeing a BIT less of me in November. I’m turning my blog over to some lovely guest post-ers to share some great posts in my absence so the blog isn’t just crickets! They’ll be posting while I’m on my honeymoon for a week 🙂
  • After that, well, life back to normal, I hope! I’m going to try to catch up on a bunch of books — all of those ARCs that I’ve been promising to read since August (and earlier. Oops)!
  • I honestly have nothing else haha! Wedding has consumed my life, so we’re playing November by ear! But I WILL have some reviews coming for Brandon Sanderson books (you know, if I ever write them)

September 2014: Recap & Wrap-Up!

This is my obligatory comment about how quickly September FLEW BY. BECAUSE SERIOUSLY. Whereeeee has 2014 gone?

  • Number of Books Read In August: 11. That’s actually better than I thought it was going to be!!
  • Popular Search Terms:  “where she went ending” // “Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell” // “where she went read online” and “read the kill order online” (again! Not gonna find that here. Just reviews :D) // “the lunar chronicles quiz”
  • More Amusing Search Terms: “lunar chronicles oh my stars” // “childermass snape” (huh?) // “book to protect her identity with the help of a notorious perpeture trilogy” // “how a book addiction starts” (indeed)
  • Most Referrals (non-social media): Rather Be Reading, The Perpetual Page Turner, Kirjasirkus (how exotic!)

  • Alyssa, Amy and I are hosting A Fortnight of Fright from October 17th – 31st! We hope you’ll join us in celebrating Halloween with this event!
  • I’m going to the Fierce Reads tour in Arlington Heights, IL on 10/10 and OMG I’M MODERATING and OMG MARISS MEYER IS GOING TO BE THERE *deep breaths* I will try not to fangirl TOO much but I’ll still be an awkward mess, I’m sure.

August 2014: Recap & Wrap-Up!

I can’t believe how fast this year is going. August was a really good month in some ways (my best friend got married, another close friend got engaged, more wedding planning) and very stressful in others (new sump pump & hot water heater after a flooded basement, more wedding planning), but really it was all good and here I am one step closer to my own wedding coming up! Just madness. My wallet has taken a beating so I’ve been on a book buying ban and I’ve been doing SO many things that I’ve barely had time to finish any books this month either. It’s been a bit of a slow patch for reading and blogging but hey. Sometimes life just happens! Anyway… Let’s go back and recap what happened on the blog!

  • Number of Books Read In August: 6. Ouch. It’s been a really busy month and I honestly haven’t even finished a book in two weeks. I’ve just been doing ALL THE THINGS and poor reading has taken a hit!
  • Popular Search Terms:  “where she went ending” // “meant to be book” // “where she went read online” and “if I stay read online” (Sorry, guys. Nope.) // “why did mia leave adam in where she went”
  • More Amusing Search Terms: “do you have to read stephanie perkins book in a specific order” (Hm… I guess you don’t really HAVE to. But you really, really should!) // “angry pics of girls” (Ummm. Okay? I know this led them to the Confessions of an Angry Girl post though haha) // “ichabod crane tom mison” (score!)

  • I’m going to TRY to keep reading my September ARCs… I fell WAY behind with all of the wedding planning I had to do in August and I have a feeling that may be the case for September… But whatever I can do, I can do!
  • Because of my inability to finish books this month, we’re going to try to do TWO posts for On the Same Page in Sept! Burial Rites & the Goose Girl, here we come!
  • The Selective Collective will actually be taking a little hiatus… A lot of us have quite a bit going on in our lives right now but we’ll keep you informed about future books & posts!
  • I’m catching up on LOTS of reviews in September! Other than that… I’m picking posts as I go along haha! It’s so busy right now, but I’m squeezing in what I can 🙂

WOWWWW August is over already too. Two more months until my wedding (which is unbelievable) and I just can’t tell if things will be a bit calmer with so many big things out of the way now or just as crazy with only two months left to go. I’m trying to keep up with my blog but understandably, it may be a bit quieter around here! 🙂
