11 Colorful Covers You Need For Your Shelves

rainbow book covers

I’m a sucker for bright, colorful book covers. They instantly draw me in and these gorgeous arrays of color really brighten up my shelves! I keep all of my contemporary books together and it’s insane how much brighter they are compared to the rest of my bookcase (can you spot them below?) and I love the pop of color they bring!

Below are some of my favorite rainbow-y, colorful, bright, and cheery covers. They’ll make any bookcase stand out!

open road summer the start of me and you emery lord WHEN WE COLLIDED

I just adore Emery Lord’s books and these covers really make them that much more beautiful! I’d love them no matter what the covers looked like but I’m so happy each one is so bright and attractive!

2. FIRST AND THEN by Emma Mills

First & Then

This cover is stunning — and you need the hardcover so you can peek under the dust jacket too! The hearts are embossed on a royal blue cover!

3. DISSONANCE and RESONANCE by Erica O’Rourke

Purples, blues, and greens are my favorite colors and they work so well together! I love this series from Erica O’Rourke and these covers incorporate my favorite color combinations!!

Love Letters to the Dead

I love the fade from dark to light and the dreamy, purple and pink clouds. Any fade or ombre pulls me in!

These colors! I love the contrast of the night sky and the colorful sunrise (sunset? I think sunrise). It’s very neat how the silhouette of the girl pulls them together too! (Or rather, splits them apart?)

6. SUMMER OF SLOANE by Erin L. Schneider

The bright yellows, oranges, reds, and pinks just scream summer! This book made me yearn for summer days and I immediately wanted to hop on a plane to Hawaii! (I wish.)

7. WILD AWAKE by Hilary T. Smith

Wild Awake

This book was such a whirlwind and I love how the colors feel so representative of the story! I absolutely finished this in one day (really almost one sitting)!

8. MEANT TO BE by Lauren Morrill

Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill cover

MEANT TO BE was just plain cute! It was such a feel-good book with a nerdy girl, and adorable romance, and a story that spoke to me. I’ve always LOVED these colors on the cover!

9. CREWEL by Gennifer Albin

I’m still bummed this series ended up with a cover change after book one! This swirl of colors instantly caught my eye and I totally fell in love with it.

10. UNDER THE NEVER SKY by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Sky

This series is still one of my favorites and had one of the most solid series-enders I think I’ve read! I love the ethereal feel of the cover and each one in the series has a great swirl of light.

11. 26 KISSES by Anna Michels

This is an adorable YA debut and felt so wonderfully summery! I also love the combination of colorful kisses and letters on the cover!

Do you have a favorite colorful cover from this list? What makes a book cover attractive to you? What other colorful and bright covers make your list of favorites?

My Latest Bookish Addiction [4]

In keeping with the theme of my blog, I decided to start bringing you updates of the newest and greatest bookish addictions in my life so I can share with you some awesomely bookish things or discuss if maybe we share the same bookish loves. It seemed like a great way to get a little discussion going in a very relaxed way.

This Edition’s Bookish Addiction? Sneaking a peek under dust jackets on hardcovers.

Well first things first… It’s been a LONG time since I’ve done an edition of My Latest Bookish Addiction… Like two months *gasp!* BUT that’s because Book and a Beverage has just been taking off so well! I started reading a new book this weekend (Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger) and once again, I took a peek under the book’s dust jacket to see what the actual hardback looks like. I’m not sure when this started but I’ve been doing that a lot lately!

I love dust jackets. I actually keep them on while I read my books (half the time I use the flaps as my bookmark/to hold my spot), so even though sometimes they slip and get in the way, I’m one of those people who keeps them on… But recently I realized that means that half the time I don’t even know what the actual BOOK looks like. We have pretty artwork and list lovely paper that covers the book, but I don’t actually see the book and sometimes there are some pretty cool THINGS under there or a different color than I was expecting.

So it’s no secret that I LOOOOVE the cover for THE RAVEN BOYS… but have you ever looked under the jacket? The actual cover has the SYMBOL imprinted into the actual cover. I loved peeking behind the jacket and seeing that little surprise!

I ALSO love the cover for THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT but underneath the jacket is this gorgeous teal blue embossed lettering of the cover.

MEANT TO BE’s cover is soooo pretty with all of those colors and rays of light, but underneath, the hardback is a combination of blue and white with some pretty pink lettering! (Pardon that ugly living room carpet…)

My hardback of DELIRIUM is one of the older ones (I think?) and SURPRISE!!!! Look what’s underneath the jacket! I actually hadn’t peeked under the dust jacket for the longest time so I was really actually quite shocked to see this un-traditional PICTURE on the actual cover! It’s actually pretty cool the image that is bleeding through the text on the jacket is actually underneath!

SIEGE AND STORM’s cover is also amazing (duh) and although I seriously took a horrible picture of the book underneath the jacket, it’s got the dragon on the spine and the castle embossed on the front cover. So much love for everything about this!!!

Is it just me, or does anyone else love to peek under the dust jacket? If you haven’t, maybe you should start! Some hardbacks are just simple and sweet, but others have quite a few neat goodies under there!!! Other times it’s just nice to know what’s going on.

If you find any good secret things under and dust jackets, let me know!! I’d love to know what I’m missing.

Top Ten Tuesday – May 21, 2013: Top Ten Favorite Book Covers Of Books I’ve Read

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish!
This week’s topic IS (Survey says!): Top Ten Favorite Book Covers Of Books I’ve Read

Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill: From looking at the book’s dust jacket, I found out that this cover was created from stock images (which probably explains why “Julia” is in heels and a dress) but I just love the colors and they’ve always caught my eye!

Crewel by Gennifer Albin: How gorgeous is this cover? I guess I’m a sucker for rainbow patterns and I’ve always loved that abstract look which is clearly going on here… Didn’t know there was a face on the cover for quite some time which kind of ruined it for me a little (and I seriously can’t un-see it so I don’t know how I missed it originally), but I still can’t get over the colors.

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson: I just love the Tiger Lily on this cover.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: Love the castle, love the antlers and that I actually get the Russian vibe from the cover!

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater: It wasn’t until I actually owned a copy of the book that I fell in love with the cover. I never realized before that you can see all the brush strokes of the raven as if someone actually hand painted each cover. Very cool.

Mind Games by Kiersten White: As disappointed as I was with the book, I still love this cover. The bright colors and mosaic photos are lovely.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: After reading this book and knowing what part this image comes from, THIS COVER JUST KILLS ME. My heart honestly hurts each time I see it.

Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black: Another book I was a little disappointed in, but I still think this cover is brilliantly gorgeous! Too bad the book didn’t quite live up to its cover.

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood: I love this cover for Born Wicked and was actually really disappointed with the redesign for the paperback! This cover is beautiful and I totally feel like I’m in the time period. Also, the position of the cover model… Her eyes haunt me.

The Forsaken by Lisa M. Stasse: How do people even come up with this!? I loved this cover when I first saw it. Incredibly creative and fits the story so well!

Well, that’s it for this week! Which of these covers catch your eye? Do we share any favorites?
