The Lunar Chronicles (Re)Read Along | Scarlet

lunar chronicles read along

Did you love The Lunar Chronicles and want to re-read the series before WINTER comes out in November? Have you been meaning to start the series and are ready now that all the books will be out? Then now’s the perfect time for you to join THE LUNAR CHRONICLES (RE)READ ALONG!

We kicked off the read along with CINDER in August (see the intro & CINDER post here!) and I hope everyone’s been having a GREAT time so far! I’ve been having such a blast seeing all of the updates, the posts, and re-reading the books myself!

Now we’re looking towards September where we’ll be reading and celebrating SCARLET all month long! Some people finished CINDER super quickly and jumped ahead, others waited to start, but regardless if you still need to read or have already finished, I think we’re all going to have an awesome time talking about SCARLET this month! Here’s what the tentative schedule looks like:

  • 9/1 – 9/7:  Chapters 1-12
  • 9/8 – 9/14: Chapters 12-23
  • 9/15 – 9/21: Chapters 24-35
  • 9/22 – 9/28: Chapters 36-47
  • Week of 9/28: Post recap and/or review

The schedule is more of a guideline for those who like to stay on a specific timeline but feel free to start or finish any time during the month of September! The read along is always about reading the books, discussing, and enjoying more than a schedule. I’m just happy you’re here and reading along with us!

#TLCReadAlong | Cinder’s Cyborg Features

I’m sure you’ve been inundated by now with my updates for the Lunar Chronicles Read Along that I’m hosting but now is time for less of the promo, more of the fun stuff that I really wanted to include in the read along!

In case you’re not familiar, August is all about CINDER! The whole month is dedicated to the first book in The Lunar Chronicles and I sort of love how many people have finished the book already because they just couldn’t stop reading! (You really, really liked it!!!) Hey, that just gives us more time to discuss, flail, and fangirl for the rest of the month, right? Right!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I even took the time to create some fan art! I am having SO much fun with this!

For my first “bonus” read along post, I wanted to talk about some of Cinder’s cyborg features! She has a lot of interesting stuff and some of it could really come in handy!

LIE DETECTOR
I think Cinder’s built-in lie detector is one of my favorite things! It’s a scientific thing so it really works off of interpreting human reactions and delivery (it’s sci-fi so we’re science-based here) and I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to be able to use that feature! Then again… do I REALLY want to know when everyone is lying to me? Maybe sometimes not knowing is better…

STORAGE
Sure, you can wear pants with pockets or carry a bag, but Cinder has compartment storage in her leg. It certainly came in handy a few times throughout the book and I think that could be a great hiding place for special things! (Although could be kind of creepy to get used to.)

A COMPUTER IN YOUR HEAD
Cinder essentially has a computer in her head. She can access the internet at any time, look up information, get directions, track ID chips… now THAT would be super handy. I don’t think I’d want to be a cyborg and hardwired, but think of the wonders that could do!

Which of Cinder’s cyborg features would YOU want? A lie detector? Computer in your head? Metal limbs for extra durability?? Let’s chat!

The Lunar Chronicles (Re)Read Along | Sign-Ups + Cinder!

lunar chronicles read along

Did you love The Lunar Chronicles and want to re-read the series before WINTER comes out in November? Have you been meaning to start the series and are ready now that all the books will be out? Then now’s the perfect time for you to join THE LUNAR CHRONICLES (RE)READ ALONG!

Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series is one of my all-time favorites and I knew I wanted to experience them all again to refresh my memory before the final book, WINTER, comes out this fall! I got the idea to host a read along for those who wanted to re-read and for those who have been holding out for WINTER before they started and it’s finally time to share this read along with all you book-lovers out there! (You have no idea how hard it was to hold onto this idea until it was finally time to share!)

I’m SO excited to be hosting this four-month long event with some help from the wonderful folks at Macmillan & Fierce Reads! They were kind enough to totally jump on board when I asked them if they wanted to be a part of the read along too and it wouldn’t be as fabulous as it’s shaping up to be without them!

Ready to get reading? Check out the details of the read along below!

WHEN

The read along will span from August 1 – December 7, 2015. Readers will be allotted four weeks to read each book. Here is the schedule for each book:

  • CINDER: August 1 – August 31
  • SCARLET: September 1 – September 30
  • CRESS: October 1 – October 31
  • WINTER: November 10 – December 7

NOTE: Since FAIREST is such a short read, it will not be officially included in the read along (it’s way too quick to dedicate a whole month to it)! If you want to read FAIREST too, the downtime between CRESS & WINTER might be a great time to squeeze it in!

HOW

  • Readers will have four weeks to read each book (though the entire month will be allotted).
  • At the end of each month, readers will be encouraged to write either a review of the book or some sort of recap post.
  • Readers are also encouraged to share updates (NON-SPOILERY) on social media using the hashtag #TLCReadAlong! At the end of each month, one person using the hashtag will be randomly selected to win a TLC-related prize! Contest is open to US participants only. Sorry! But we hope that regardless of country, you’ll join us in reading!
  • There will also be opportunities for fun Lunar Chronicles posts related to each book — think less book report questions, more fun & games!

WHO

ANYONE is invited to join in! Whether you’re re-reading the series in full, starting for the first time, or jumping in later on, we welcome you with open arms! If you’ve already read CINDER and want to wait to jump in at SCARLET (for example), or just want to wait until WINTER comes out and read along with us then, you’re welcome to hop in the read along at any time!
You may see many bloggers here but you do NOT have to be a blogger to join! This is literally a read along for ANYONE who wants to read the series. I’m just excited to experience the series with new readers and those who already love it and want to re-read. All readers welcome!

WHERE

  • READ ALONG DETAILS: The details of the read along will be posted here at The Book Addict’s Guide. Fierce Reads + Macmillan will also be cross-promoting the read along in conjunction with their exciting promos for WINTER as well! Be sure to check out their “Join the Resistance” campaign for SO much more Lunar Chronicles-related fun, opportunities, and swag giveaways!
  • TWITTER + INSTAGRAM: Share updates and photos with the hashtag #TLCReadAlong! (No spoilers, please.) Top Ten Tuesday – December 9, 2014: Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

TOP TEN TUESDAY
December 9, 2014

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic: Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

The top ten new-to-me-authors is one of my favorite categories! This year I ended up binge reading two series in particular that will surely be on this list and somehow those authors instantly became some of my favorites. It’s so interesting to look back and see your life before these books like, “Why did I wait so long to read these!?”

SARAH J. MAAS

throneofglass

The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass # 0.1 – 0.5) – Sarah J. Maas
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) – Sarah J. Maas
Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) – Sarah J. Maas
Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) – Sarah J. Maas

WHY did I wait so long to read Throne of Glass!? It seems so silly now, but really when I first tried it, I was not ready for fantasy yet. I did not love fantasy like I do now (I don’t know how but I totally fell in love with fantasy over these past couple years) and I had actually returned it to the library and decided to try again some other time. Thank goodness I did! I ended up not only enjoying Throne of Glass but binge reading the rest of the series (up to this point) and falling in love with those, PLUS pining for Sarah’s newest book, A Court of Thorns and Roses coming out next year (but I’m already drooling over all those ARCs floating out there)!

BRANDON SANDERSON

mistborn

Mistborn: The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) – Brandon Sanderson
The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) – Brandon Sanderson

Sanderson was another immediate, head-over-heels in love author. I binge read the Mistborn trilogy plus the first spin-off book (technically #4 in the series) and I fangirled HARD. I am totally in love with this series and also can’t wait to read more of Sanderson’s books! Lucky for me, I’m SO late to this parade that I have plenty of books to choose from as far as what I should start next!

EMERY LORD

emerylord

Open Road Summer – Emery Lord

I think Emery Lord was a new favorite for tons of people this year with her debut, Open Road Summer, coming out this past spring. I immediately fell in love with the book and went crazy when I got her second novel, The Start of Me and You (which comes out in March but I read in November) from Bloomsbury for review (and general flailing). I love Emery’s writing and she quickly became a favorite of mine! So happy to see her having so much success this year!

LIZ CZUKAS

lizcuzkas

Ask Again Later – Liz Czukas
Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless – Liz Czukas

Liz Czukas is another author who had a debut release this year and I had a similar experience with her books like I did with Emery Lord’s — I love her debut, Ask Again Later, and had an absolute BLAST reading her second novel, Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless early this fall (it releases TODAY)! Her writing is so much fun and her characters are a blast. I am definitely a fan and she’s a instant preorder author for me all the way! AND I just finished her new adult book When Joss Met Matt (under the name of Ellie Cahill) and I LOVED IT!

SCOTT LYNCH

scott_lynch

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard #1) – Scott Lynch
Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastard #2) – Scott Lynch

Wow, TWO adult fantasy authors on a top ten favorites list. Who could have possibly guessed that a couple years ago, right? I was so heavy into YA and not a fantasy person and the adult fantasy selections that I’ve been reading have been spot. on. for my tastes! I adored The Lies of Locke Lamora and its sequel, Red Seas Under Red Skies. I’m holding off on book three until book four is in sight because I need to space them out juuuust a bit! I don’t want to get ahead of myself. It’s a seven book series!

ABIGAIL HAAS

abigail_haas

Dangerous Girls – Abigail Haas
Dangerous Boys – Abigail Haas

Two words: DANGEROUS GIRLS. This book absolutely floored me (not to mention it has the added special bonus of BEA memories since that’s when I read it!) and I also enjoyed her second novel (though not related), Dangerous Boys. These mystery/thrillers were so much fun to read and Dangerous Girls was just so incredibly realistic which made it scary. (Thank goodness I didn’t end up in jail when I was in Aruba!!!) Just loved these books.

MARIE RUTKOSKI

marie_rutkoski

The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Curse #1) – Marie Rutkoski

The Winner’s Curse is not Marie Rutkoski’s first book, but it was the first I’d read from her and I really loved the world and the characters that she created! With visions of the feelings of The Winner’s Curse dancing in my head, I read book two in the trilogy, The Winner’s Crime, the other week and WOW. That was just amazing. I love that it’s a fantasy world but one that doesn’t incorporate a magic system like is traditionally expected. Honestly, I just can’t wait for the last book! (Or, you know… March. When The Winner’s Crime comes out.)

LEILA SALES

leila_sales

This Song Will Save Your Life – Leila Sales
Past Perfect – Leila Sales

I didn’t quite fall head over heels with This Song Will Save Your Life like some did but I did still REALLY enjoy it. I also read Past Perfect this year which Estelle had gifted to me for Christmas and loved that one too! I will definitely be on the lookout for Leila’s new book coming out in 2015! Can’t wait to see what it’s all about!

DAHLIA ADLER

dahlia_adler

I read Dahlia’s debut new adult novel, Last Will and Testament (out TODAY!!!) and absolutely loved it. It was everything I’ve been looking for in a new adult novel and that made me even more excited to get to her YA release, Behind the Scenes (with a companion coming out in 2015)!

ERICA O’ROURKE

dissonance

 Dissonance (Dissonance #1) – Erica O’Rourke

HOW how how have I not read anything by Erica yet!? I read Dissonance right before I got to see Erica O’Rourke at an event with Susan Dennard and Sarah J. Maas and I LOVED IT. It was SUCH a “me” book and to hear Susan and Sarah flail about her previous books too… Gah. I will have to read more ASAP!!

There we go! My top ten new-to-me-authors! I can’t wait to read more from each and every one of them too!

Top Ten Tuesday – November 25, 2014: Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR

TTT

TOP TEN TUESDAY
November 25, 2014

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic: Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR

Now normally when we do these seasonal TBRs, I head straight for the new releases that come out within those few months. For the first time in forever (you’re welcome for that Frozen song that’s now stuck in your head), I have an ACTUAL SCHEDULE. *gasp!* I have a few buddy reads plus a couple books I’m reading because I requested them from/they were given to me by an author that I’ve made a personal connection with and  I do not want to let them down. I’m terrible at following a reading schedule and usually these lists are total fails, but some of these I REALLY DO promise to read!

wjmm

Andi (Andi’s ABCs) and I have decided to read When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill together! We’re starting the first week of December as a totally casual buddy read but if anyone else wants to join in, you’re more than welcome! WJMM is Liz Czukas’ new adult book that comes out this February — right!? New Adult. I’m forging into new things. But I love Liz Czukas and her two YA books so I think this one is a safe bet for me!

Ask Again Later – Liz Czukas
Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless – Liz Czukas

lwat

I will be reading another new adult book *gasp* this one by Dahlia Adler. I LOVE Dahlia — she’s so personable and fantastic at interacting with people on Twitter and I just love talking to her — which goes to show you how terrible *I* am because I still haven’t read her first book (which I won from her. UGH. Seriously awful person. I PROMISE I WILL READ IT SOON, I PROMISE. DON’T HATE ME, DAHLIA). BUT because I love her so, I happily volunteered to take a part in a big promotion push for her upcoming new adult book Last Will and Testament! I’m so excited to read it and as soon as I finish my other books, this one is next on my list!

ldad

Last year, Estelle (Rather Be Reading) and I MEANT to read Lovely, Dark and Deep as a “winter read” and somehow we never did. Probably my fault? Since I’m not so good at sticking to the schedules (I’m gonna blame wedding planning?)… But hopefully we can read it together this winter! I’ve been meaning to!

swrr

It’s totally my fault that our On the Same Page schedule has been so messed up (oops, got married) but December’s read is Snow White and Rose Red, chosen by Alyssa (it’s her birthday month!) and we will definitely be reading this one! I’m excited for another group read with my besties!

zodiac

My last “planned” read is Zodiac by Romina Russell. I was so fortunate to receive this one from Penguin Teen (with a sweet promo package) and I want to do them justice by reading it on time/close to pub date! I need to be better at reading books I receive around their pub dates so this is one I really want to do justice to! (And I really want to read it too.)

tbrwinter

Lastly are my selections that are actually being published this winter. OBVIOUSLY we have Fairest by Marissa Meyer coming in first. I may have to take off work after I get this baby because HOW can I start reading it and stop? All the Bright Places and I’ll Meet You There are two I’ve heard nothing but good things about and There Will Be Lies and Cut Me Free are two I received from the publishers that I’d like to read earlier rather than later! 🙂

I ACTUALLY chose ten books for once! YAY! And I think this is the first time I’ve done a seasonal post where I may actually read a majority of them “on time”!!!!
