Pub Date [15] | Horoscope

Pub Date

Hi, all! Welcome to back to our feature called PUB DATE where Estelle from Rather Be Reading, Andi from Andi’s ABCs, and Maggie from Just a Couple More Pages and I all team up to pair books + beers in harmony! Each week, one of us will features a beer and a book of our choice, each with a different theme for that month!

This month’s theme: Horoscope

Estelle came up with a really fun idea for this month’s Pub Date — using our Zodiac signs as a theme for each of our posts! I actually THINK we’re all a different sign (right?) so this could get super fun!

Epic Reads actually JUST did a post with this same idea — zodiac + books — shortly after we had selected the topic for this round of Pub Date (rats! They got to it first! Darn you, planning ahead) so you should definitely check out their posts of book recs for each Zodiac sign. The idea is a lot of fun and can really be done so many ways so I’m excited to do this a bit differently than the Epic Reads post!

My astrological sign is Pisces (my birthday is March 11th) and I’m smack in the middle of the Pisces range. For my post, I wanted to focus on a few aspects of the sign. Pisces are emotional, compassionate, and giving. They’re also dreamers and romantics (yes, pretty much all of this is true for me) so I wanted to pick books that represented all of these things — including a few books that represent the fact that Pisces is a water sign!

Okay, so a little story about today’s post… I thought this one was going be an easy post. I had a lot of ideas, which apparently does not equal a lot of results. I went to the liquor store to get a beer either involving water or fish — seems easy, right? Where were all the water-themed beers???? I should have picked up Big Wave as I passed it but I already had the beer above in my hand which turned out to be a pale ale from Ballast Point. I paid for my beer and found out it cost me SEVENTEEN DOLLARS for a six pack. What?! Was this beer super high in alcohol content? Was there gold in it? Nope. Apparently it’s some sort of special edition and yes, it costs $15.99 which is a little over $17 after tax. I mean, not a huge deal. It’s a few more dollars than I’d spend on a six pack and I guess if you look at it this way, that’s only three pints if I went out to a bar and paid the same amount of money. BUT at least we know the liquor store didn’t rip me off, so that’s good. Long story short, Grunion Pale Ale is GOOD but I don’t know if it’s worth $15.99…

So then I was home, drinking my expensive beer and staring at my books. Where are all my water books??? How do I have no books involving water? I knew I wasn’t going to have any fish books, of course (I thought about my mermaid books but forgot I gave those away…) so I ended up grabbing a few books off my shelves that had water on the cover or took place near a body of water. (I DID have The Scorpio Races with that but since we were doing zodiac… I’m not a Scorpio… I put it back.) This ended up to be kind of a mess of a post or experience but hey, I guess it worked out in end, right?

Thanks for joining us for another edition of Pub Date! Missed any posts? You can catch up at any time on my blog page for the Pub Date Feature!

Recent Beers

  • Kolsch by Schlafly. Kolsch // 4.80% ABV. I don’t know a LOT about kolsches but I know that I like how light they are! I’m always looking for something lighter in body and flavor. This wasn’t my favorite one out there but it’ll do! I do like Schlafly’s beers but I do wish they had a nicer backbone.
  • 312 Urban Wheat Ale by Goose Island. American Pale Wheat Ale // 4.20% ABV. Somehow I didn’t know that this was classified as a pale wheat ale? I don’t know… I guess because I was drinking it before I really cared about beer style so I never really paid attention! But it’s still a great beer no matter what it is and I always love the Chicago breweries!
  • Green Line Pale Ale. American Pale Ale // 5.40% ABV. I’ve really been getting into American pale ales lately. IPAs tend to be a BIT too hoppy for me sometimes but I love the more mild flavor of an American Pale Ale. So far, Green Line is my favorite!
