Proud to be a Nerd!

I’ve noticed a trend recently with some of the books that I’ve really been enjoying in the past months. A lot of them have been NERD BOOKS. So many of the books I’ve really liked recently have had a nerdy heroine, a dorky guy, or a generally geek-tastic theme!

So why have I enjoyed these books so much? To put it simply, being a nerd is fun! Clearly I can relate (I think we’re all book nerds here…) and maybe not to the full extent of the characters since unlike a few of them, I don’t get as into things like video games and comic books, but even if it’s not the same kind of nerdiness, I still love geeking out with them! The themes are just plain fun!

Another reason is that I love seeing these characters own their inner-nerd. I absolutely love the confidence that the characters either A) have maintained and totally owned because they love who they are or B) are finally able to gain once they eventually do become comfortable with themselves. It’s nice to see them truly happy with the person that they are and not afraid to show it!

Lastly, I love nerdy hot guys. There’s something so sexy about a guy who is cute and smart and clever and I’ve gotta say… The brains matter more than body! I’ve never been into muscles, and sports are great but jocks never really did it for me either. Give me a witty, nerdy guy any day!

So first and foremost, I’m going to share my favorite nerdy books! If you’re looking for a new, fun read, I highly suggest starting with these!

You know what’s really funny? I actually don’t consider myself to be a nerd at all. Yeah I love reading more than your usual person, but I don’t see that as being nerdy. Back in high school, yes, I was a nerd. Now, definitely not. I actually hate reading books with nerdy characters because I don’t relate. I think that’s why you and I differ on books at times, because you like those nerdy characters and I prefer the mean girls. I’m glad you’re proud to be a nerd though, because there are plenty of people who aren’t. 🙂

I love this post, and I SO agree that nerd books are fun! I’m glad that being a nerd is finally becoming a cool thing to do. You just commented on my review of Meant to Be (thank you!), so I know you’ve read it. I’m glad you loved it so much! Anyway, I mention it because Julia is my most recent nerdy heroine. The Summer I Became a Nerd is NEXT. I’m glad it’s good!

CHUUUUCK! Extreme fangirling over here. I was the only one out of my graduating class who liked this. Whenever I tried to bring it up, people were like what? Isn’t that a nerdy show? And then when I went to university there were like, ten million people there who were instantly like, OMG CHUCK BEST SHOW EVAAA! And then we had a Chuck marathon over the first couple months of school (followed by Supernatural seasons 1-6). My favourite part of the show is definitely the Buy More peeps. I love the episode where they barricade themselves into the Buy More to protest, and then end up accidentally burning the place down.

I haven’t read any of those yet, but they’re all on my list. But my dad and brother and sister and I are all totally addicted to Big Bang Theory, and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every episode at least two or three times.

I was in marching band in high school, but I didn’t own my nerdiness until college: majoring in medieval history, secretary of Harry Potter Club, doing NaNoWriMo…

This post made me smile so big! I’m a total nerd at heart and I’ve been loving the nerd books I’ve been reading! I’m in the middle of The Summer I Became A Nerd right now and loving it! I’ll have to check out the other books on your list as well!

Also Big Bang is like living in my house! Between the nerdy brothers and the nerdy guy friends!

Haha. I love some nerdiness in my books, too! I definitely think of myself as a nerd. I mean, I would rather curl up with a book anyday, that go out partying or whatever the “popular” people do.

And Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite TV shows ever!

Love this! I don’t know what it is about hipster nerd guys, but yes! They are totally crush-worthy! I’ve never seen Chuck but have a very strong love of Zachary Levi. Must watch this show! I also haven’t read any of the books you listed, except The Summer I Became a Nerd. Really must!
