Book and a Beverage

Welcome back to BOOK AND A BEVERAGE!

In case you don’t know the deal about Book and a Beverage, it’s a very simple yet fun feature: We read books, we drink beverages, we take pictures of them and then I share your photos and a little about you to the blogging world!

Give a big welcome to Alexa from Alexa Loves Books!

Name & Blog Name:  Hi! I’m Alexa from Alexa Loves Books 🙂
Tell us a little about your blog! This is always tough for me to do, but I’m going to do my best. Alexa Loves Books is my little outlet where I post reviews of books (mostly YA and romance), author interviews and, occasionally, a personal post or two. It started out as a way for me to remember all the books I’ve read, but it’s morphed into an outlet for sharing my thoughts, opinions and life with my friends, bookish or otherwise.
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!)  Oh wow! That’s a tough one. In the spirit of me and my fascination with the numbers 3 and 5, I will give you 3 of my favorite blog posts ever, if that’s okay? My favorite review I’ve ever written (so far) is my review for The Book Thiefeven though it was also one of the hardest to do. Other than that, I’ve done some pretty fun posts on the blog including a post about Taylor Swift (for a feature I did with Estelle of Rather Be Reading)  and one about Asian-inspired books (which is something close to my heart).
Got anything special coming up we should know about? I’m excited about the Incarnate Series Read-a-thon I’m co-hosting this January! It’s one of my favorite series, and I’m looking forward to reading the first two books again and topping it off by reading the last one, Infinite, when it’s out!

Whatcha reading? I’m, as of this moment, reading Taken by Erin Bowman.
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc) I was going to get a finished copy for myself, but I was lucky enough to snag a signed one from BEA 2013.
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? I’ve been intrigued by this one for a while, plus I adore Erin (who is one of the sweetest, most talented people I know)! I wanted to time my participation in this feature so that this would be the book I read 😉
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? It’s pretty good, in spite of the reservations I initially had about it. I’m not too far in, so I can’t say much more than that! I do want to point out that the covers are FANTASTIC though. I’ll let you all know (via the blog) if I recommend it once I’m done with it!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetWhatcha drinking? I’m drinking coffee, which I alternate with tea and hot cocoa and warm milk during the cooler seasons. Coffee is my favorite though — I’m a bit of an addict! (That photo with the Junior’s cup is hot chocolate though — just wanted to share because it’s SO. GOOD.)
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? Year-round, I really drink coffee — iced, specialty, warm — you name it, I’ll drink it if it’s coffee.
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! While coffee would normally win out, it would probably have to be milkshakes. I adore milkshakes and always want to have one, even when it’s freezing out.

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Hands down, I would recommend the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. I’ve been a strong advocate for these books since I read the first one, and will continue to be a diehard fan (and the self-proclaimed Empress of Chaol’s fan club).
I would also recommend the Something Strange and Deadly series by Susan Dennard. I only read the series this year, but it’s seriously brilliant. I love what Susan has done in combining steampunk and necromancy and I need more.
Lastly, I would recommend The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I am also obsessed with this series, mostly because Marissa has taken the fairytales we all know and love and turned them completely on their head. It’s fantastic and creative!
(I’m obviously a cheater since these are all series recommendations. In fact, I’m going to cheat just a wee bit more and slide in my recommendations for the Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer [4 hot brothers with elemental powers? YES PLEASE] and Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling [no questions asked!])
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? I’m always very proud when people really respond to my posts! It’s fun to read through the comments and see what people have to say. But I think most of my proud/fangirl moments happen whenever I get the opportunity to meet authors and tell them how much I love their books (and them) — and it’s even more special when they recognize me! (I seriously want to flail every single time that happens.)
Anything else you’d like to share? I hope everyone enjoys the holidays this year! It’s one of my favorite holidays, if not my absolute favorite, mostly because of what I associate it with. So I hope you spend it with your loved ones, sharing good food and having amazing experiences. Lots of love! xo

Thanks, Alexa! SO SO SO much fun to have you on Book and a Beverage today! You have such fabulous taste in books because those series are some of my favorites! And that hot chocolate looks AMAZING!

Great interview, ladies! I need to read Something Strange and Deadly because that’s the only one out of your suggestions that I haven’t read yet. I need to finish Maas’ series though since I only read the first one (and LOVED it). Mm, milkshakes. I love coffee, but I’m not addicted, I can pretty much only have select kinds, but I do like trying new variations!
