Book and a Beverage [86] – Lindsey from A Bookish Sinister Kid

Book and a Beverage

Welcome back to BOOK AND A BEVERAGE!

In case you don’t know the deal about Book and a Beverage, it’s a very simple yet fun feature: We read books, we drink beverages, we take pictures of them and then I share your photos and a little about you to the blogging world!

Give a big welcome to Lindsey from A Bookish Sinister Kid!

Lindsey a bookish sinister kid book and a beverage1 Name & Blog Name: Hi Everyone! My name is Lindsey and I’m over at A Bookish Sinister Kid. I try to review what YA/Adult novels I can (if I get approved *crosses fingers* from NetGalley and any ARCs I’m able to borrow or get from friends/conferences. Also bookish events & author signings. I’m in the process of branching out to add some pop culture/trends posts soon!
Tell us a little about your blog! This name actually changed earlier this year! I wanted to blog two years ago, had a friend come up with a design (she rules for doing that) but it was a personal blog that I paid for and just couldn’t keep up with it. In January 2014, I went to ALAMW in Philly (nearby me) and decided I needed a better blog persona. Sinister Kid is an awesome Black Keys song so I incorporated it into my blog and voilà! Even people started referring to me as Kid or the Kid, so I’m stuck with it now 😉
What’s been your favorite post you’ve written so far? (Link us up!) Ack, that’s so hard! I’ve posted over 950 posts on my blog, choosing just one is impossible! One post that I loved is actually a guest post by Rin Chupeco, which has a ghost story she wrote for my Halloween feature. It’s so creepy and awesome!
Got anything special coming up we should know about? Earlier I said I want to branch out into a few trends/pop culture posts & in the beginning of the year I’m going to try and put together a Parks & Rec dedication. It’s a TV show with Amy Poehler (in case you’re unfamiliar–please educate yourselves now) and it’s in it’s last season. I was re-watching the seasons while I had time off and it’s just one of my favorite shows & it’s the perfect time to give an ode to it 🙂 It’s becoming a long post because I want to include a thousand tumblr GIFs so I need to rethink this haha!

Whatcha reading? Currently I’m finishing There Will Be Lies by Nick Lake, but the pic I have is The Raven Boys which I’m hoping to start next!
Where did it come from? (Library, purchased, publisher, etc) Well the Nick Lake book I received from NetGalley but The Raven Boys I bought Christmas Day. I asked for ONE book for Christmas, figuring I’d get a gift card to spend at Amazon to buy all the books and received no gift card…OR the one book I had asked for, this one. So I decided to say screw it and bought it Christmas night because I was so sad. It’s unheard of to not get books as gifts when you’re a big reader 🙁
Any special reason you chose to feature this book? I think I always wanted to read this but when Blue Lily Lily Blue (the third book in this series) I saw some deviant art posted in my feed and heard rave reviews so I said, “Oh yeah, this gets bumped up on my list to read.”
What’s important that we should know about this book? Would you recommend it? Well again, I haven’t read it but I’m really excited for it! Everyone who’s read the series so far gives it a big thumbs up, so I’m gonna say I’ll probably love it too! As for the Nick Lake book, it’s pretty interesting and I’m around 70% done with it & can’t wait to see what happens in the end.beverage Whatcha drinking? COFFEEEEEEE! It’s in my mom’s Spode mug which, my mom goes completely all out for Christmas time so this picture screams Christmas. Eventually I’ll get some of her Spode, but for now I borrow–she breaks it out each Christmas so it’s a nice tradition to have.
What’s your favorite thing to drink while reading? Probably a drink from Starbucks or homemade coffee. I mean water is okay too. I think I usually get so sucked into a book a book I just about remember to breathe, never mind try to drink anything hahaha, but a Starbucks drink is your best bet.
Favorite beverage of all time. Go! I’m cheating and giving a tie, cold/hot drink: Red Robin’s Raspberry Limeade…I try not to drink a lot of soda, I have to really be in the mood for it, but that drink is pretty damn delicious. And of course, for a hot drink it’s gotta be Starbucks Vanilla Spice Latte. They had it out two years ago and I haven’t forgiven them from taking it off the menu. I think the Vanilla Macchiato (which is pretty good) was it’s replacement. This saddens me so, but I dropped some serious dough when that drink was on the menu and I would pay it all again to have it back!

bonus

What are your top three books you would recommend to other people? Oooh, a toughy. Well 1. is definitely Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Read it five times, have so much swag from the series, books signed, and I have 4 copies of that first book. I’m right behind Andi ABC’s. Sigh…St. Clair. *Ahem* moving on. 2. is probably Just One Day (I swear it’s a coincidence I’m picking Paris themed books–number 3 isn’t) but that book is another I’ve re-read and it’s such a great self discovery story. I really sympathized and felt like I had things in common with Allyson. 3. …Harry Potter. Obviously you’d start with Sorcerer’s Stone, but that series is literally magical. It’ll bring you to a place you never
What’s your proudest blogging/reading/writing moment? I’d probably say, literally December 2014 has been an awesome blogging month because I tried to get ahead of schedule with Top Ten Tuesdays, two book reviews, a 2014 recap, YALLFest wrap-up — some serious blogging mojo happened. The reading/writing moment happened a few years ago when I read Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I was touched by the book so much, I wrote Jay an email and he wrote me back (this was WAY before I started reading excessively and blogging). I had read an article in EW that spotlighted Jay and this book so I wrote him and thanked him for writing it. Then I decided to write EW for recommending the book, and you know how magazines have some readers write in blurbs about a previous issue? Well I made sure I kept mine short and sweet & someone from Entertainment Weekly contacted me and asked me for permission to print my comment!!! Sadly it didn’t make it in, just had the possibility, but that was probably the coolest/proudest moment that a book took me there 🙂
Anything else you’d like to share? So glad I was able to be apart of this! I love taking pictures of my books and posting them and I don’t mind doing this with a cup of coffee! Thank you for letting me share with you & Brittany for hosting!

I LOVE Parks and Rec!!! I’m so sad it’s ending but excited for the last season- I like that it can go out on its own merits in its own way and the time jump is going to be crazy! I’ve been watching Season 2 onwards again on Netflix and forgot how hilarious it’s always been. Such a great show. I used tons of Leslie and Ben gifs in my End of Year Survey post 😀

THE RAVEN BOYS! I got it at the library when it came out a couple years ago and it was definitely unusual. I liked it a lot but really fell in love with the second book. And when I reread both before Blue Lily Lily Blue I loved The Raven Boys itself so much more! I knew what to expect from Maggie’s writing style and the odd cadence of the pacing. But oh my god the characters are sublime and the story is great, I really hope you like it!! And that sucks about Christmas, how lame! Glad you bought it anyway 🙂

Hate when Starbucks changes the menu, they took away my favorite pumpkin scone last fall and I’m still sad about it!

Anna and HP, yay 😀 Both all time favorites. Loved reading your post, happy reading in 2015!
