Pub Date [19] | Siblings

Pub Date

Hi, all! Welcome to back to our feature called PUB DATE where Estelle from Rather Be Reading, Andi from Andi’s ABCs, and Maggie from Just a Couple More Pages and I all team up to pair books + beers in harmony! Each week, one of us will features a beer and a book of our choice, each with a different theme for that month!

This month’s theme: Siblings

At first I had a hard time thinking of a proper beer to go with a sibling theme. There are so many obvious choices from the book side of it and my thoughts were already swirling with my favorite literary siblings… But as I was thinking about it (honestly for like a week), it suddenly popped into my head, OF COURSE! Two Brothers!

Two Brothers is a local brewery that has only gotten better over the years. You’ve probably seen them in a few of my previous posts because I love highlighting local breweries but what could be more perfect for a siblings theme? Two Brothers has two locations — a brewery and taphouse in Warrenville, IL and a full restaurant including banquet space in Aurora, IL. Their beers have been perfected over the past couple of years and I’ve really come to love their stuff! Today I’m drinking the last Ebel’s Weiss we had in the fridge and it’s one of my favorite beers of theirs! If you ever have the opportunity to pick it up, I highly recommend it!

I have a bunch of favorite siblings in literature but two books immediately come to mind — the first is Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt. I just love the sister relationship between Mallory and her sister and how it’s just such a normal sibling relationship! I don’t actually have a physical copy of that book though so I went with another sister relationship I really enjoy and that is the one between Del and her sister Addison in Erica O’Rourke’s Dissonance series! I really appreciated this relationship because it sort of reminded me of my own relationship with my sister. The two girls don’t always get along perfectly and it takes them a while to really develop that excellent sister bond that extends beyond sisters into best friends. My sister and I have always had a good relationship but it was so special to really develop that friendship even more when I was in college and once I had graduated. We even roomed together for a year in an apartment! I really love that Del and Addison aren’t always on the exact same page but they do always have each other’s backs. Their relationship is touching to watch as it develops and grows into a beautiful friendship as well!

And to be super fancy and tie everything in together, Erica O’Rourke and her books are local also! Erica is from the Chicago area and both Dissonance and Resonance take place in the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs. It was another thing that made this series so special to me! I love being able to see places I know and have been in books because it really adds that extra layer of something special!

Recent Beers

  • Winter Lager by Sam Adams/Boston Brewing Company. Winter Lager // 5.6% ABV. It must mean winter is HERE when our local bars have Winter Lager as the seasonal Sam Adams on tap! I really enjoy most of the Sam Adams season beers and this one is nice and wintery!
  • Water on Mars by Werk Force Brewing Company. Saison // 5.5% ABV. Water on Mars is a tart cherry saison and it is quite delicious! Werk Force always has amazing beers and they’re SUPER local so sadly I think their beers are only on tap locally… but if you ever come across an opportunity to sample them, do!
  • Punk Rock for Rich Kids by Solem Oath Brewery. Belgian Pale Ale // 5.5% ABV. I’ve really been enjoying pale ales recently and I love this Belgian twist! Solemn Oath is another local brewery that has only gotten better over the years and I’m really starting to like their stuff a lot!

Hahaha, it’s so interesting that you are so knowledgeable about drinks and books. As a chronic bookworm that never went to parties or got the appeal of beer, it seems like an odd match to me. Great post though! I’m so glad to be done with NaNoWriMo and able to go catch up with all the book recommendations I missed from my favorite bloggers now that December is here <3

This is a really interesting feature! I’m not much of a beer drinker, but it’s so cool to see the different beers paired up with books. I’m really close to my siblings, so I adore books that have great sibling relationships. I’ll have to check these books out.
