Top Ten Tuesday: November 21, 2017 – Top Ten Books I’m Thankful For

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic:
Top Ten Books I’m Thankful For

It’s almost Thanksgiving and it’s not usually my favorite holiday (not a bad one but just not on the top of this list) but I’m actually super excited for it this year. We didn’t get to celebrate at all last year due to some medical things so I’m super looking forward to spending the day with my family! I also get Black Friday off of work for the first time in eight years so I’m pretty pumped about that too!

I’m always, always thankful for books. Not only because of my love of reading, but they’ve provided me with so many opportunities to connect with amazing people who have become my closest friends! Here are a few I’m extra thankful for!

THE HARRY POTTER SERIES by J.K. Rowling | This will basically always be number one on this list. There’s just a magic (no pun intended) that this series brings to people’s lives and has connected SO many people through books and even through movies. My parents have never read the books but they’ve enjoyed the movies and even want to go to HP World! I’ve connected with so many readers from our love of this series and the magic truly spans generations.

CINDER by Marissa Meyer | The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorite series and I have been able to have SO many amazing experiences because of my participation in sharing the love! I’ve been able to received advanced copies, a manuscript, be on blog tours, interview Marissa Meyer, moderate a Fierce Reads panel, and so much more. It’s VERY cool to be recognized by the publisher for doing something you already love and I’m so thankful that I not only fell in love with this series but that it’s brought me to so many other amazing opportunities too!

THE PRINCESS BRIDE by William Goldberg | If it wasn’t for this book, I don’t know if Alyssa (Books Take You Places) and I would have met! Well, I’m sure we would have but we both knew we were super cool people because of our love for The Princess Bride and it’s what kicked off our friendship!! She’s been one of my best friends for years and I’m so glad that this book kicked off our friendship. Plus I’m also so thankful for the movie HA.

THE SCORPIO RACES by Maggie Stiefvater | After my first read of this book, I’ve started re-reading it every year. It’s not super heavy in action (though it has its moments) but it doesn’t need to be. The characters carry this book and the atmosphere is so magical. There’s something truly realistic about this magical place and I love revisiting it every year.

ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS by Stephanie Perkins | I adore this book and always will. I’ve taken to re-reading it on my birthday every year as a birthday present to myself. I relate to Anna in so many way and I simply adore Etienne St. Clair. It’s just such a wonderful read and I love reliving it!

THE RAVEN BOYS by Maggie Stiefvater | While we’re talking about Maggie Stiefvater, let’s also talk about The Raven Cycle. These books. This series. These characters. They just make me FEEL so many things. I re-read the entire series from start to finish this year and I just felt it all over again.

THE GIVER by Lois Lowry | Sadly the end of this series didn’t go so well for me but I still remember reading this book in 7th or 8th grade and being so in awe of it. I re-read it as an adult (though I still haven’t seen the movie) and it’s still just as solid!

WALK TWO MOONS by Sharon Creech | Any nostalgic list of mine will hold this book on it. I read it as a pre-teen and fell absolutely in love with it and this was another childhood re-read that I read as an adult and oh my word. I SOBBED. I still have all of those feelings and they’re even more magnified with all of my adult experiences.

TWILIGHT by Stephenie Meyer | Don’t hate, guys! Without TWILIGHT, I might not be the reader that I am today. I wasn’t reading for fun for quite a few years and then I just started dipping back into reading with some adult fiction but wasn’t obsessive over it. The TWILIGHT craze got me really back into reading with book discussions with my friends, obsessing over movies, and epic binge reads and re-reads.

HEIST SOCIETY by Ally Carter | This is a little different because while I do enjoy the books, it’s on my list because it was one of the first audiobooks that I really enjoyed. I had listened to THE FAULT IN OUR STARS as I think the very first and I didn’t like the narrator (or, well, the book) so I’m so thankful for this book launching me into the world of audio!

SHADOW AND BONE by Leigh Bardugo | Like The Lunar Chronicles, this book/series has presented me with so many bookish opportunities and I’m SO thankful to have the amazing books by Leigh Bardugo in my life. I’ve been able to see Leigh on tour many times and she’s absolutely wonderful. I continue to enjoy her books, the fandom, the Grishaverse, her tours, and everything involved with these excellent works.

What are some of the books that you’re thankful for? What books have changed your life?

I finally read Walk two moons and it is such a great book. So beautiful and sad… Thanks for your recommendation. I would never have picked it up without.
