The Selective Collective features GOING VINTAGE: Casting Call

The Selective Collective reads GOING VINTAGE by LINDSEY LEAVITT

The Selective Collective features GOING VINTAGE by LINDSEY LEAVITT, provided to us by Bloomsbury for review and book club discussion. For my part in this Selective Collective post, I’ve got the Casting Call feature so I’ll be bringing you my casting choices for all our favorites from GOING VINTAGE!

Before we jump in, here’s a little info on the book:

Book Synopsis: When Mallory’s boyfriend, Jeremy, cheats on her with an online girlfriend, Mallory decides the best way to de-Jeremy her life is to de-modernize things too. Inspired by a list of goals her grandmother made in1962, Mallory swears off technology and returns to a simpler time (when boyfriends couldn’t cheat with computer avatars). The List:
1. Run for pep club secretary
2. Host a fancy dinner party/soiree
3. Sew a dress for Homecoming
4. Find a steady
5. Do something dangerous
But simple proves to be crazy-complicated, and the details of the past begin to change Mallory’s present. Add in a too-busy grandmother, a sassy sister, and the cute pep-club presient–who just happens to be her ex’s cousin–and soon Mallory begins to wonder if going vintage is going too far. — From Goodreads.com

CASTING CALL: GOING VINTAGE

Mallory: For my Mallory, I chose Kaitlyn Dever. I think she is super cute in Last Man Standing (for those of you who don’t watch the show, she plays one of Tim Allen’s daughters, if that rings a bell) and I think her attitude is really perfect for Mallory! I think she would totally be a girl who is confident yet cautious and she can totally pull off Going Vintage! She’s got all the spunk that a girl playing Mallory needs and I think her personality would just a be a perfect match. Plus, she looks a little vintage in this photo – kind of perfect!

Ginnie: Ginnie was by far one of my favorite characters so I knew I needed to find the perfect girl to play her! I know she was described as having corkscrew blonde hair, but the corkscrew aspect was hard to match… Hey, you can always curl someone’s hair. Ginnie was actually the first person I ended up casting with Elle Fanning. She’s super adorable but seems like she could be the perfect little sister to give her big sis a hard time like Ginnie so often does! I can definitely see Elle Fanning in the role.

Jeremy: Thanks to Kristina for helping me with this one! My (our) pick for Jeremy is Blake Jenner who has recently been on Glee. I’ll have to take your word for it since I stopped watching Glee a while ago, but I saw him and knew immediately that he was the go-to choice for Jeremy! He’s pretty close to how I pictured him in my head and I think he could definitely pull of the character! He actually looks like someone I knew in college, which is weird… I know Jeremy called himself “The Amazing Asian” but Lindsey Leavitt made a point that he was only half Asian and as far as I can remember, he didn’t really look that Asian either, so Blake Jenner was a satisfactory choice for me!

Oliver: Last but not least, we come to Oliver….. who was impossible for me to cast. I just had this picture in my head of what Oliver should look like and for the life of me, I could not find an actor that matched that image. Kristina actually suggested Austin Butler from The Carrie Diaries but I turned her down because I didn’t picture him having such blonde hair… But I searched and searched. I thought and thought…. And he’s actually kind of perfect. I’m not usually one to like blondes, but I may need to start watching The Carrie Diaries soon… (He’s 22 so that’s not creepy, right?) I was trying to find a good picture of him but every single picture is him with Vanessa Hudgins (good for them, bad for casting purposes haha) so this is the best I can get for now! He’s still a little too “pretty” for what I was looking for, but he’ll do!

Hope you enjoyed my choices for Casting Call! And please don’t forget to check out the features from the other ladies in The Selective Collective! We each have a post to feature a different side of GOING VINTAGE so please go visit their take on the book as well!

Good casting. I especially like your choice for Ginny, that’s how I pictured her. I agree that Oliver would be hard to cast.

  2. Candice

Totally LOVE your Ginny! Elle could totally pull that role off! I can kinda see Blake pulling off Jeremy… he’s growing on me. I didn’t picture Oliver with blonde hair at all… I kept picturing him as a young Darcy from Lizzie Bennet Diaries! But yeah… your choice is good too! 🙂

Also, Kaitlyn Dever is totally cute! Love her!

I know, I actually didn’t picture Oliver as blonde or pretty like that AT ALL either. But…. I seriously could NOT find someone who looked how I pictured him that wasn’t almost 30 haha! It was really, really hard so admittedly, I settled.
